Metallic finishes

Metallic finishes use pigments that move in the wet resin to give depth and marbling. They photograph extremely well. They are also the finish we talk people out of most often, so here is the honest version.

Specification
LookMarbled, high gloss, no two floors alike
TextureSmooth, which means slippery when wet
Shows wearMore than flake, considerably
Best useShowrooms, retail, feature rooms

Where it works

Dry, indoor, low traffic spaces where the floor is meant to be looked at. Showrooms, retail, an office lobby, a finished basement bar. In those rooms it is genuinely impressive and nothing else looks like it.

Where it does not

A working garage. The surface is smooth, so it is slick when wet, and being smooth it shows every scratch and tire mark instead of hiding them. It is also harder to touch up, because matching a marbled pour is not a spot repair.

If you want a garage that still looks good in five years of actual use, flake is the right answer and we will say so.
